Project Overview

The YouthSave Consortium worked with local banks in Colombia, Ghana, Kenya, and Nepal to develop savings accounts for young people; determine how savings relates to youth development and financial inclusion; and share that knowledge with development practitioners, financial institutions, researchers, and policymakers.

Making Cents provided technical assistance to Save the Children; Banco Caja Social de Colombia (BCSC), a Colombian bank; and BrandStrat, a local market research agency, to conduct youth-inclusive market research and to develop a savings product for low-income youth ages 12-18 in Colombia. We built the capacity of our local partners by designing tools and training their staff on participatory market research with youth. To address Colombian youth’s reluctance to plan for the future, we supported the design, development, and implementation of the assessment and the savings tools, and provided recommendations and comment on the prototypes and piloting processes.
