Challenge
Young people in Haiti, especially low-income youth, lack access to quality financial services. Local microfinance institutions do not have sufficient capacity to design credit and savings products appropriate for youth.
Solution
Making Cents International supported the development of a tailored savings product for more than 8,000 low-income youth in Haiti and a tailored credit product for at least 1,000 more youth.
We partnered with and built the capacity of Fonkoze, the largest microfinance institution in the country, to conduct youth-inclusive, participatory market research and develop these financial products. The partnership prepared Fonkoze to develop research instruments and use new data tools to collect and analyze qualitative data more effectively.
