Project Overview

The EPQ project focused on improving the quality of middle school education in Senegal through four main components: improved and decentralized initial teacher training and ongoing professional development; improved school governance and management; increased student competency in French reading and math; and extended opportunities for youth community service and employment.Making Cents trained youth in entrepreneurship, business, and life skills by identifying appropriate curricula for youth and conducting TOT courses for facilitators in the formal and non-formal sectors who serve youth. We developed entrepreneurship and business skills training as well as agribusiness and market opportunities training for in- and out-of-school youth. Using our Agriculture Enterprise Curriculum™, MoneyMinds Curriculum™, and Market Opportunities Curriculum™, we trained a total of 106 secondary school teachers and youth organization trainers. Wide-reaching skill-building training programs were delivered through school and after-school programs, summer camps, and NGO- or community-supported programming.
